Lauretta wants to be a teacher. But she hasn’t been to school since January, when she had to drop out in order to help her family at home. While her mother spends all day searching for food to feed her children, 12-year-old Lauretta looks after her younger brothers, collects firewood and fetches water to cook whatever they may be able to eat.
Lauretta’s family is one of millions in Niger and beyond, who are trying to survive the desperate hunger crisis that has swept across West Africa’s Sahel region. Learn more about how Mercy Corps is responding, and what you can do to help.

Knowing and believing that we are loved is truly important for all of us to know. I’ve come to realize that this is what we are seeking from one another. Knowing that someone loves us gives us a sense of comfort.
But do we really know what LOVE requires?
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 says:
Love is patient, love is kind, It does not envy, It does not boast, It is not proud, It is not rude, It is not self-seeking, It is not easily angered, Love keeps no record of wrongs, does not delight in evil, rejoices with the truth, always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres, and never fails.
I have been guilty of not committing to several of these requirements. Starting today, I’m challenging myself to openly show my friends and family how much I love them by honoring the guidelines of this scripture.
